Programs Planned For Future NHS Freshmen And Their Parents

On Monday, March 3, the counselors of Newtown High School’s Guidance Department will host a meeting for eighth grade students who do not currently attend Newtown Middle School but are considering a move into NHS for the 2008-09 school year. Parents are also invited.

The program will begin at 8 am in the high school’s lecture hall with an overview of the course offerings of NHS, school activities, and the expectations of all incoming freshmen. During this session, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the high school and/or the transition from eighth to ninth grade.

A tour of the building will also be offered.

The following evening an eighth grade parent’s night will take place Tuesday, March 4, at the high school to acquaint parents of incoming freshman with the school and expectations of students. The snow date is March 5.

The evening will start with a tour of Newtown High School at 6:30 pm, followed by a presentation in the auditorium at 7 pm. Department chairs and administrators will discuss course offerings and ninth grade expectations. Parents will have the opportunity to raise questions about the ninth grade curriculum.

Parents are welcome to call Newtown Middle School, 426-7638 (for the March 4 program), or Newtown High School guidance offices, 426-7651 (for either program), with any questions.
