Drug Charges

Police said they stopped motorist David Manville, 18, of 15 Timbermill Road about 5:53 pm February 19 near 29 Church Hill Road because the vehicle that he was driving had a defective taillamp.

Police said they had their German shepherd sniff the vehicle’s exterior and the dog indicated that narcotics were present inside the vehicle. A search turned up some marijuana and rolling papers inside the vehicle, police said.

Police charged Manville with driving with a defective taillamp, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A passenger in the vehicle, Erik Jurman, 19, of 21 Pebble Road, was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, police said.

Police released Manville on $100 bail for a March 4 court appearance. Police held Jurman on $100 bail for a February 20 court appearance.

SUV Vs Pole

Motorist Anthony Morris, 25, of 209 Riverside Road was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer westward on Riverside Road about 7:33 am February 19,  when he slid to the right due to icy road conditions, police said.

The Ford then collided with a utility pole, police said. Morris then drove home and contacted police who investigated the accident, according to police.

Morris was not injured, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Town Truck

Matthew Schaub, 23, of Southbury was driving a town-owned 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck eastward near 51 Pole Bridge Road in dark, wet, rainy conditions about 6 pm February 13, police said.

Schaub told police that his vision was obscured by the headlamps of a westbound vehicle, after which he encountered some fallen tree branches in the eastbound lane. Schaub attempted to avoid a collision but struck the tree braches, police said.

Schaub was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Volvo Vs Audi

Police report a two-car accident at the hazardous intersection of The Boulevard and Church Hill Road about 7:30 am February 14.

Motorist Kimberly Stendahl, 48, of 9 Hanover Road was driving a 2000 Volvo SSE sedan southward on The Boulevard and then stopped at a stop sign at The Boulevard’s intersection with Church Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Gail Shaker, 48, of 72 Engleside Terrace was driving a 1998 Audi A4-Q sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The Volvo then attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road but collided with the Audi, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Stendahl for failure to grant the right of way, and also issued her an infraction ticket for failure to renew a driver’s license.
