Womenâs Softball Signup

The Newtown Womenâs Softball League will be having sign-ups on Thursday, March 9, and Wednesday, March 22, from 6 to 8 pm at the Newtown Middle School cafeteria. In order to be eligible to play, you must be 18 years of age (by June 1), a Newtown resident (or work in Newtown). Proof of residency must be shown. If one individual plans to register an entire team, a roster must be submitted with proof of residency for each player. A $5 registration fee is required. Call Joanne Didonato, league president, at 426-5733 for further information.

Youth Lacrosse Coaches Sought

The Newtown Youth Lacrosse Association is seeking coaches for its boysâ and girlsâ teams. Experience in the game is helpful, but not required. Openings are in the girlsâ 3rd through 6th grade level and the boysâ 3rd through 8th grade level. Call Ken Law at 270-3905 or Tom DâAgostino at 426-4133 for further information.

Rotisserie League Owners Sought

An established Rotisserie Baseball League is seeking a new owner to take over an existing team. The league is also seeking owners for expansion teams. Interested baseball fans should call 426-6657 for further information

U16 Travel Softball

A 16-and-under girlsâ traveling softball team (name still undetermined) will be holding tryouts for the summer 2000 season. Any players interested in participating should call Frank Bonacci at 426-3361 for further details on sites and times.

Breeze Has One Roster Spot Open

The Connecticut Breeze 18-and-under fastpitch softball team has one roster spot for a PITCHER remaining for the year 2000 summer season. Tryouts are by appointment. If interested, call Mark McCusker at 1-203-426-1501 or Tom Charney at 1-203-877-9148.

Southbury U14 Soccer Tryouts

The Southbury Scorpions Premier U14 Boys soccer team, sponsored by the Southbury Soccer Club, will hold tryouts to fill two open slots for the Spring 2000 season. The tryouts will be conducted indoors on Friday evenings. Call coach Joe Carlo at 246-4852 or manager Joanne Milburn at 577-2360 for further information.

Holly Kocet is pushing a false narrative. The facts simply don't bear out any negative impact to the traffic on Mt Pleasant Road. Saying it does , does not make it true. The road handles in excess of 40,000 trip a day. a couple hundred form Castle Hill is negatable.

Finally, The Time Has Come(And Some Reminders)

Not approving a development that has "checked" all the boxes because the NIMBY mob doesn't like it is wrong.

The town historically has strong collaboration with developers, but the primary obstacle arises from community opposition exerting undue influence on the zoning department. This "NIMBY" pressure often leads to project rejections that exceed the department's actual jurisdiction or authority. Consequently, developers face a limited set of options: either engage in expensive legal battles or leverage the Connecticut Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure (CGS § 8-30g) as a recourse.

Discusses Moratorium

You are correct, Bruce. I know how hard these plans are to put together, but I still believe that we can have more definitive and measurable goals. I know there are a number of units coming online, and the community truly needs them. If only we can move the development of affordable housing to more of a partnership between the community and the developers than the adversarial tug-of-war it seems to be now, that would be good progress.
