“Welcome To The Teen Zone” (geared for parents of middle and high schoolers) begins on Wednesday, February 23. The fee is $25 per person and $35 per couple. Parents are welcome to join at any time. Also, if you would like to host a 5 week group at your home, a staff member would be happy to arrange this with you. This is a great way for neighbors to get to know one another. Fathers’ Night – Next evening for Dads will be Monday, February 28 beginning at 7:30 pm.

Afterschool Programs For Middle School Students

Take your pick! Back by popular demand is “Bike Club.” New entries are: “Create A Memory With Me,” “Pottery,” “How Newtown Operates” (visits to Newtown Ambulance, Newtown Hook and Ladder, Edmund Town Hall and Newtown Police), “G.P. Cheffields,” (please note correction in dates – March 22 and 29) and “Ricci’s Academy.”

These programs tend to fill very quickly. Space is limited. Please call the NYS office for further information or to register.

PASSAGES – This yearly program for middle-schoolers will begin on Wednesday, March 22 and continue for the next five Wednesdays. Six different programs are scheduled. Time is 4 to 5:30 pm and will be held at NYS.

Community Events

Mark your calendars!!! Saturday, April 15 is the date!!! Newtown Youth Services will sponsor a dance/auction at the Fireside Inn on Saturday, April 15.

Annual NYS Talent Show takes place Friday, May 12th at Newtown Middle School Auditorium. Auditions at NYS on 3/28, 3/30, 4/3, 4/5. Please, call to reserve audition time.

Youth Group Meetings:

The High School Youth Advisory Board (HS YAB) will meet on Monday, February 28, at 6:30 pm.

NYCAAP will meet on Tuesday, February 29, at 5:30.

The Middle School Youth Advisory Board (MS YAB) will next meet on Wednesday, March 8 in the MS Teachers’ Lunch Room. The meeting will run from 8 to 9 am. Breakfast will be served!

New meeting schedule for MS YAB: In an effort to allow more students to attend YAB we will vary our meeting days and times. Every third meeting will be a “Breakfast Meeting” at 8 AM and others will meet on Tuesday or Wednesday at 3:45. Please check this column or the YAB bulletin board for all information.
