Auxiliary To Sponsor Girls State Student

The American Legion Auxiliary, Newtown Unit #202, wants to sponsor a high school junior to attend the Laurel Girls State at Western Connecticut State University June 25 through 30.

Laurel Girls State is a mythical state in which young women who have just completed their junior year in high schools across the state spend one week learning about state and local government. The delegates meet with state and local officials, then take their new knowledge and put it into practice by introducing their own bills and holding elections. The participants live in three mythical towns and two mythical cities. The week ends with the election of state officials and two senators who will represent Connecticut at the Girls Nation conference in Washington, D.C.

There is no cost to the delegate. Any high school junior who is interested in applying should contact Alice Saxton at 426-7728 for an interview. Reservations must be in by April.
