Newtown High School's wrestling and track athletes had quite a successful weekend, highlighted by a handful of individual championships, on February 18.

The wrestling team's performance was highlighted by Marc Maurath, Luca Manfredi, Fisher Stites, and Jon DaSilva all capturing Class L State Championships among eight place winners on the mats at Guilford High. All of these grapplers advance to the State Open, February 24 and 25.

Newtown's track teams participated in the State Open at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, and Soheib Dissa was first in the 1000 meter run in a time of 2:34.41. In addition, other Nighthawks were among the top finishers, with the girls' sprint medley relay team — Ella Hall, Rachael Albrecht, Hannah Snayd, and Riley Powers — setting the school record in a time of 4:20.54.

Read more about the success of these Nighthawks, along with that of their teammates, in the February 24 print edition of The Bee.
