Kindergarten Registration
Newtown public schools will be registering children for kindergarten during the months of April and May. If your child will turn 5 by December 31, 2005, he or she is eligible to register.
The district has begun the preregistration process. If your child is eligible for kindergarten in September, contact your elementary school as soon as possible: Hawley School, 426-7666; Head Oâ Meadow, 426-7670; Middle Gate, 426-7662; or Sandy Hook School, 426-7657.
Explore With Venture Crew 70
Venturing Crew 70 meets alternate Wednesday nights at Cullens Memorial in Newtown, and has monthly outdoor activities. Upcoming trips for 2005 include a ski weekend, hiking, sea kayaking and more.
The group is open to any youth age 14â21, and the Crew is actively seeking new members. Those interested can contact Amy or Aaron Cox at 426-4602.
Book Discussion At Next PTSA Meeting
The next Newtown High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) meeting will take place Tuesday, March 8, at 7 pm, in NHS Lecture Hall.
There will be a discussion of the book Letting Go: The Parent Guide to Todayâs College Experience by Karen Levin Coburn and Madge Lawrence Treeger. Check local libraries for availability. Copies are available at Borders and Barnes & Noble, but call ahead to reserve copy. The meeting will serve as an excellent primer for College Information Night on Tuesday, April 12. Shabbat Across America
Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown will be a local sponsor of âShabbat Across America.â
A potluck dinner will be held at the synagogue, 111 Huntingtown Road, at 6:15 pm on Friday, March 4, followed by services at 7:30 pm. For more information call 426-5188 or 268-1342.
Cemetery Cleanup
Newtown Village Cemetery Association announced this week that all Christmas decorations in the cemetery will be removed and discarded as of March 13.
Anyone wishing to keep planters and other items should pick them up before that date.
Unity In Diversity Airs Programs
Corpus Christi Faith Community presents âUnity In Diversityâ with host Rev Leo McIlrath and special guests, on Charter Cable Television, Channel 21. Programs air at noon on Mondays and at 5:30 pm on Wednesdays throughout the 14 towns of the Charter viewing area.
Pastor Bobbie Gardner of the Victory Christian Center, in Danbury, will be the guest on February 28 and on March 2.
 Pastor Gregory Wismar of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown is the special guest on March 7 and 9. On Monday, March 14 and Wednesday, March 16, the Ecumenical Christian Unity Service of Danbury will be aired.
 In the coming months, the Rev P.J. Leopold, executive director of ARC (the Association of Religious Communities), the Reverends Michael and Ann Coburn, former rectors of St James Church, in Danbury, the Rev Kendall Pallodino, director of bereavement and spiritual services for Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut will be the guests.
Programs also air on Comcast Cable (Channel 23), on Wednesdays at 6 pm and Fridays at noon.

Feng Shui At BPW Meeting
The Business and Professional Women of Newtown will present a program on feng shui at the organizationâs March 7 meeting at The Homesteads at Newtown, 166 Mt Pleasant Road.
 Amy Mims, certified feng shui practitioner, holds a bachelorâs degree in occupational therapy from the University of Pennsylvania and a masterâs degree in applied social research from Hahnemann Medical College. She is co-director of The New England School of Feng Shui, featuring a world-renown faculty and an extensive array of workshops.
As a feng shui practitioner, Amy Mims incorporates the elements of harmonious design with a process that empowers clients to manifest their goals. She teaches classes on feng shui and conducts consultations for home and business environments. She works with architects, interior designers, and landscape professionals in the creation of wonderful spaces.
The meeting at The Homesteads will begin with networking at 6 pm. Dinner, a buffet, will be at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required by Friday, March 4; call Kelly Urso, 364-1667. The cost for the dinner and program will be $25.
The Newtown Business and Professional Womenâs Club is a nonprofit organization that promotes the interests of business and professional women, providing them with an opportunity for networking. The club sponsors scholarships to help women who are changing or advancing their careers. For membership information contact Margot Hall at 426-9101.
VNA To Sponsor Talk On Hearing Loss
The Newtown Visiting Nurse Association is sponsoring a program on hearing, hearing loss, tinnitus, and other hearing-related issues at the St Rose of Lima Parish Hall, 46 Church Hill Road, from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, on Thursday, March 3.
Carol Maksimow, audioprosthologist and director of Hearing Aid Specialists of Connecticut, will give this presentation She will explain how hearing loss affects daily living for those who are experiencing hearing difficulties, tinnitus, or hearing or hearing-aid related issues.
Ms Maksimow is a graduate of Fairfield University and a state-licensed hearing instrument specialist, board-certified in hearing instrument sciences (BC-HIS). She received her master certification in audioprosthology.
Her practice is at 4 Tuttle Road in Southbury.
Toiletries Drive For Dorothy Day Hospitality House
The Newtown Service Unit of the Girl Scouts of Southwestern Connecticut Inc will be accepting donations of travel size toiletries for the Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Danbury March 5â9. The Dorothy Day Hospitality House provides meals and shelter to individuals and families in need of assistance in the surrounding area. Each year the Girl Scouts celebrate Be Your Best Day during Girl Scout Week by participating in a communitywide service project.Â
Anyone who would like to donate toiletries may place them in the collection boxes located at the Booth Library, Newtown United Methodist Church, and Christ the King Lutheran Church. The Girl Scouts are also collecting toiletries in many of the area schools.
