Cancellations, Postponements Arriving Ahead Of Winter Storm
Ahead of a winter storm moving toward Newtown and the region, events and programs scheduled for this afternoon and evening are being cancelled or postponed. A National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory covering Fairfield County, among other areas, will be in effect from 2 this afternoon until 6 am Thursday, February 21.
Up to 3 inches of mixed precipitation is expected, with conditions to impact the evening commute.
The Newtown Bee has been informed that all February 20 Parks & Recreation after school activities have been canceled. Tennis players should, according to an email from Parks & Rec, check the NYA website for cancellations or call the tennis hotline (203-283-5629) 45 minutes before their class to check on its status.
Newtown Public Schools has announced that all after school activities, evening activities and events have been canceled.
Newtown High School girls basketball SWC championship game, originally scheduled for tonight, has been postponed. The Nighthawks will instead be traveling to Southbury tomorrow night (Thursday, February 21), for a 7 pm tipoff at Pomperaug High School.
NHS Ice Hockey, who had been scheduled to face Daniel Hand High at Danbury Ice Arena tonight, will have that match rescheduled.
Legislative Council Chair Paul Lundquist has informed The Newtown Bee that he is planning to have tonight’s Legislative Council meeting postponed.
Tonight’s Newtown Choral Society rehearsal has been canceled.
Tonight's session of The Joy of Yoga Nidra at Newtown Congregational Church has been canceled due to the expected weather.
The February 20 session of Hebrew School at Congregation Adath Israel has been canceled due to the impending weather.
(UPDATE 3:31 pm) According to the town website, tonight's Public Building & Site Commission special meeting has been canceled.
