What Is Cyberbullying?

What is cyberbullying? Why do people bully other people? How do I recognize if my child or someone I know is being cyberbullied? What can I do to stop it?

The answer to these and other questions will be part of next mobile production of Charter Communications’ CommuniTyVision 21 (CTV-21), which will air on Charter Communications channel 21 this weekend and again in March.

The program is meant to show how technology continues to change lives and what can be done to keep it changing for the better.

During a 60-minute presentation, the following special guests will share their knowledge on this important topic:

*Gary Gramling, a police officer for 30 years who is currently Brookfield’s youth officer.  Internet safety is one of his areas of expertise.  He will discuss legal ramifications and community issues that arise from cyberbullying;

*Chris Delia, a retired narcotic police officer and private investigator who is currently director of security for the Anti-Defamation League. His major responsibility is to ensure safety, security, and training of staff; and

*Alex Boianghi, a guidance counselor for 18 years, who has worked with middle school, high school, and college students, families and teachers. Mr Boianghi works with issues involving cyberbullying, harassment, taunting, and teasing issues.

He will address the school’s role in dealing with cyberbullying, including impacts and consequences.  School and community resources available to support parents and students will also be addressed.

The cyberbullying edition of CommuniTyVision 21 will be aired on Sunday, February 22, at 2:30 and 5 pm; and again on Sunday, March 1, also at 2:30 and 5 pm.
