St Rose School Celebrates Catholic Schools Week
St Rose of Lima kicked off Catholic Schools Week on Sunday, January 25, with its annual open house. The event, coordinated by school parent Gayle Hill, included tours of the building for prospective families given by students and parent volunteers.
School Principal Mary Maloney, Preschool Director Sister Thaddeus Rajca, and all St Rose faculty from prekindergarten through eighth grade were at the event to answer questions.
Throughout the weekend, St Rose students spoke at all St Rose masses, and at masses held at area churches, about their experiences as Catholic school students.
On Monday, the celebration continued with a Spirit Rally and Pig Race in the new Gathering Hall. St Roseâs cheerleaders and Pep Squad performed, and all students wore red and white, the schoolâs colors, and cheered for their classroomâs pig. Later that evening, St Roseâs eighth graders bested the St Rose faculty in the schoolâs annual eighth grade versus faculty basketball game.
Tuesdayâs Pajama Day fundraiser raised more than $750 for a St Rose family whose dad is undergoing treatment for cancer.
On Thursday, students attended an âAll That Jazzâ concert, coordinated by Cultural Arts Committee director Alice Walsh, and surprised their bus drivers with gifts and cards.
Catholic Schools Week came to a close on Friday with a lunch for the St Rose faculty. Parent volunteer Ann Marie Wood oversaw the entire weekâs events.
