Varsity Winter Guard Prepping For Fundraisers
With 12 of the 18 Newtown High School Varsity Winter Guard members seniors returning to the Winter Guard International (WGI) Championships in April for the very last time, the guard is working hard not only to perfect their performances, but to raise the $900 per girl needed to make the four-day trip to Dayton, Ohio.
A variety of fundraisers are underway, including the Fifth Annual NHS Varsity Winter Guard Pasta Supper and Silent Auction that will take place on Friday, February 20, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Newtown United Methodist Church. Tickets are $12 at the door, and children under five eat free. The menu includes pasta, meatballs (provided by Tambascio’s Restaurant), salad, rolls, beverage, and home-baked desserts. Gluten-free pasta will also be available, and the sauce will be offered meatless.
The Second Annual Wine and Beer Tasting, hosted by the NHS Varsity Winter Guard parents, will take place on Friday, March 13, at the Alexandria Room Edmond Town Hall from 7 pm to 10 pm. Featuring 30 wines and ten beers from around the world, a dessert bar and dessert wines, appetizers, and a silent auction the event is $35 per adult in advance or $40 at the door. Tickets are available by e-mailing Robbinredhead@hotmail.com.
Newtown fans will have a chance to see all three Newtown guard divisions perform locally at the Newtown Winter Extravaganza, Newtown High School Winter Guard, and Winter Percussion’s “Home Show” on Saturday, March 7. Times are to be determined, and ticket prices will be $10 for adults and seniors and $7 for students.
