The Lake Zoar Water Ski Club – a non-profit organization that brings water-skiing into the lives of blind and visually-impaired people – has been honored as the USA Water Ski 2000 Eastern Club of the Year.

The Lake Zoar Water Ski Club has also helped disable skiers compete on the national and international level. Two club members have made the USA World Disabled Water Ski Team and hope to achieve gold medal victories (as they did in 1999) at the 2001 World Disabled Water Ski Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

In addition to hosting a summer 2000 water-ski camp for children, the Lake Zoar Water Ski Club hosted water-ski clinics for both disabled youths and adults, organized and certified club members as Official USA Water Ski Training Divers, along with holding several improptu ski sessions to train novice skiers and improve the skills of skiers with some prior experience.

The current goal of the Lake Zoar Waterski Club is to provide disabled youths and adults with the facilities, training and opportunity to actively participate in the sport of water skiing.

The Club of the Year contest is an effort to recognize and reward the hardest-working USA Water Ski-affiliated clubs in the United States. It rewards clubs that host water ski events that provide opportunities for newcomers to the sport to participate and become active members of USA Water Ski.

The Lake Zoar Water Ski Club was recognized at the USA Water Ski winter board meeting in January and will be honored at the Water Ski Hall of Fame induction ceremony in April. USA Water Ski was formed in 1939 as a non-profit organization promoting the sport in the United States.
