SCAN President Will Be Guest Artist At Next Club Meeting

Melody Asbury, the current president of Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, will paint a full figure in oil from a live model at the afternoon meeting of SCAN, on Wednesday, February 28, at 1:30 pm. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at Newtown Meeting House (lower level), 31 Main Street in Newtown.

Those who are familiar with Ms Asbury’s paintings of animals may be in for a pleasant surprise to learn of her additional expertise in portraiture. Her skills were particularly useful in her past career as a trial sketch artist for television.

Ms Asbury’s formal training as an artist began at Ridgewood Art Institute, and then continued at Wesleyan College and Dayton Art Institute. Currently she teaches painting at Naugatuck Valley Technical College.

Ms Asbury is an elected member of North Shore Art Association, Gloucester, Mass., and of Kent Art Association in Kent, Conn. She will also be conducting an all-day workshop of Newtown Meeting House in oil figure paintings on Saturday, April 21.
