To the Editor:

Newtown is lucky; we have the opportunity to elect Rebekah Harriman-Stites to represent us in Hartford. She is a dedicated public servant who is deeply immersed in the Newtown community, working to help Newtown grow and thrive.

Rebekah has been on the Board of Education since 2015, serving in various leadership positions, including two years as vice-chair. She is a tireless advocate for quality education, knowing that strong schools are vital to our quality of life and our property values. She ran a small business raising funds for not-for-profit organizations, and is now Director of Development for Ann’s Place, a cancer support agency. She helped found the My Sandy Hook Family Fund and the EverWonder Children’s Museum, and chaired the leadership/community engagement program of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council. She has been widely recognized for her leadership in the community, and also knows first hand the challenges facing small business owners and working families.

Rebekah’s plans include prioritizing economic development to ease the tax burden for residents; supporting our seniors and our children; and ensuring the safety of our residents through smart gun violence prevention legislation. She knows we can do all this while still preserving Newtown’s quality of life and rural character.

Rebekah is smart, organized, dynamic, and tremendously energetic. She is a creative thinker and a great communicator who knows how to help people work together even if they have different points of view.

She has been serving Newtown for almost 20 years; now let’s send Rebekah to Hartford so she can put her creative thinking and dedicated service to work for us there. Please join me in voting for Rebekah Harriman-Stites for the 106th Legislative District.
