Truck Crash

Police report that motorist Cody Cahill, 23, of 44 Tomahawk Trail was driving a 2003 Dodge 2500 pickup truck eastward on Riverside Road, east of its intersection with Timber Mill Road, at about 2:33 am on February 14, when while negotiating a curve to the left on the roadway, the truck went off the road's right shoulder, smashing into a utility pole and some guardrailing.

Cahill then fled the scene of the collision, according to police.

Police said they found the heavily damaged truck parked on Round Hill Road in the Riverside section. Police report that Cahill told them that he was uninjured, and that he did not realize that he had struck a utility pole.

Police said they matched fragments of the damaged truck which they found at the accident scene with the vehicle that they found at Round Hill Road, after which they charged Cahill with evading responsibility and with making a restricted turn. Police charged Cahill about one hour after the accident occurred.

Cahill was released on $100 bail for an appearance on March 1 in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

South Main Street

During snowy conditions at about 12:03 pm on February 8, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Wills Road.

The accident in slippery conditions involved motorist Linda Jean Leuallen, 67, of 10 Wills Road, who was driving a 2004 Honda Accord, and motorist Charles Staack, 58, of 15 Ox Hill Road, who was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck, police said. Following their vehicles' collision, the Honda then struck a utility pole, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Leuallen an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Jeep Vs Pipe

Police report that motorist Richard Monda, 55, of Bridgewater, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, was entering a driveway at McLaughlin Vineyards at Alberts Hill Road at about 1:11 pm on February 7, when the Jeep slid backward, went off the driveway, and then struck a stationary steel pipe. There were no injuries.

SUV Onto Bank

Motorist Andrew Ozymko, 39, of Stamford was driving a 2015 Lincoln MKT SUV on Swamp Road at about 4 am on February 9, when while taking a curve on the road to the left, the vehicle slid on some snow and went out of control, police said.

The Lincoln then drove off the right road shoulder and landed on an embankment, police said. There were no injuries.

Plaza South

At about 11:46 pm on February 12, motorist Vanna Vazouras, 21, of Huntington was driving a 2004 Audi A-4 auto northward on South Main Street, as motorist David Yangra, 25, of West Haven was driving a 1994 Toyota Camry sedan southward there, police said.

The Audi then attempted to make a left turn to enter Plaza South at 266-276 South Main Street, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Yangra and Toyota passenger Konan Yao, 43, of Stratford to Danbury Hospital, police said.

Police said they gave Vazouras a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Highway Accident

Motorist Nicole McGough, 27, of Bethel was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 12:30 pm on a snowy February 8, when she lost control of the auto while negotiating a curve in the road and then struck some metal guardrailing, state police said.

There were no injuries. McGough received an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane, state police said.

Interstate Crash

State police said that at about 2 pm on February 8, motorist Emily Neff, 24, of Buchanan, N.Y., who was driving a 2010 Ford Focus auto westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, attempted to slow down, but slid amid slippery conditions and went off the right road shoulder, striking some guardcabling.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Neff for traveling too fast for conditions.

Lost Control

Motorist Briana Peet, 19, of Prospect, who was driving a 2004 Ford Taurus sedan, was traveling on an Exit 9 ramp for westbound Interstate 84 at about 7:14 am on February 5 amid slippery conditions, when she lost control of the auto and it spun about, striking a traffic sign along the ramp's right road shoulder, state police said.

There were no injuries. Peet received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.

Newtown Police Department will be taking a no-excuses approach to seatbelt law enforcement, writing citations day and night, during the current Click It Or Ticket seatbelt use campaign.
