High Winds Prompt Six Calls For Wires Down
High winds on a rainy Tuesday afternoon resulted in six emergency calls to the town after utility lines came down under the weight of fallen tree limbs, officials said.
Firefighters from three of the town's five volunteer fire companies responded to the calls. (See Fire Reports.)
The fallen power lines resulted in temporary, isolated power outages in the affected areas.
Sandy Hook firefighters responded to four of the six calls, Hook & Ladder and Dodgingtown firefighters responded to the others.
Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company Chief Bill Halstead said he knew of no injuries due to the six incidents.
Four of the six calls were made in less than one hour starting at 2:44 pm. The call locations were Head O' Meadow Road, near the intersection of Hyvue Drive and Birch Hill Road, near the intersection of Jeremiah Road and Bennetts Bridge Road, and near the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Still Hill Road.
After 6 pm, emergency calls came in from Mohawk Trail and Hemlock Trail.
