‘Race To Nowhere’ To Be Screened March 2

Housatonic Valley Waldorf School, 40 Dodgingtown Road, parent Carolyn Storrier of Wilton said this week, she is looking forward to the school’s sponsored March 2 showing of the film Race To Nowhere, at The Palace Danbury, on Main Street.

“It’s a grass roots effort to see how we can make some changes for our children,” said Ms Storrier.

Together with a parent committee, Ms Storrier also arranged for the film’s director, Vicki Abeles, to be available during the screening for a discussion.

“Come see the film to become aware of what is going on across the country,” said Ms Storrier.

According to a press release, Director Vicki Abeles was a concerned mother herself who turned her camera on the high-stakes, high-pressure culture in schools, noting “Race to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic in our schools: cheating has become commonplace; students are disengaged; stress-related illness and depression are rampant; and many young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.”

Ms Storrier said the movie gives people the opportunity to learn and share ideas with the director.
