Newtown Youth Wrestlers Gather More Hardware
Members of the Newtown Youth Wrestling Association (NYWA) recently participated in the ninth Annual Robert Ihrig Youth Wrestling Tournament, in Cobleskill, New York. The tournament is one of several that serve as a qualifying competition for both the Eastern Nationals and the Ohio Tournament of Champions â both nationally-recognized events.
The NYWA was represented by several wrestlers in both the elementary and middle school divisions who made the trip.Â
William Henkel and Michael Carpenter led off the mighty mites division by each winning gold medals. Joining in the solid effort was Zach Robinson, who was victorious in his first match but lost two hard fought matches to finish out his day. Rounding out the morning session in the intermediate division was Sean Arnold who continued his suburb season with another gold-medal finish.
The afternoon session saw the novice and middle school divisions bring home several gold medals as well. Earning the top spots in their divisions were Michael Garner, Anthony Falbo, and Edward Lovely. Other afternoon session medal winners were Joseph Priano and Forest Speed.
