Middle School Eighth-Graders Battle On The Hardwood

Newtown Middle School’s boys’ basketball team recent game highlights are as follows:

The boys defeated Rochambeau, which came into the contest undefeated, 49-21. The team was led in scoring by Julian Dunn with 15 points as he got most of his points in the paint. Troy Frangione and Colton Smith set the tempo on offense, taking advantage of their speed on the fast break and combining for 14 points. Will Dalton and Bobby Archiere played aggressive defense to hold Rochambeau to 30 points below its team average. Jeremy Doski and Harry Depuy came off the bench to add defensive depth to the team.

In a rematch against Rochambeau, the Newtown Lions maintained their undefeated record with an impressive 48-33 victory. Troy Frangione led all scorers with 13 points from the point. Julian Dunn had another strong game inside with 12 points. To balance out the attack, Will Dalton had a solid shooting day, adding 11 points. Colton Smith played excellent perimeter defense to go along with his 6 points. Bobby Archiere, Harry Depuy, and Jeremy Doski all had great games rebounding, and denying any second chances Rochambeau had of getting back in the game.

In a rematch of last years championship game, the Newtown Lions dominated Bethel to win 68-40. With the score tied at the end of the first quarter, Newtown took a commanding 17-point lead at the half. Troy Frangione led all scorers with 14 points as Bethel focused on shutting down Newtown’s low post game. Will Dalton added 11 points off the fast break to go along with Colton Smith’s 9 points. Harry Depuy came off the bench to add 8 points, and the defense of Bobby Archiere controlled the boards. Dave Matthews had 5 points from the point to go along with Bryce Decker’s 4 points in the paint.

The Lions improved their record to 10-0 with an impressive victory over Whisconier 60-36. Julian Dunn led all scorers with a season high 23 points in the low post. Troy Frangione added 9 points from the point of attack to go along with Colton Smith’s 8 points on the fast break. Will Dalton and Jeremy Doski played aggressive perimeter defense to shut down any chance of Whisconier getting back in the game.
