Malloy Taps Union Leader As State Labor Chief

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy has tapped a union leader for the post of labor commissioner, while naming the former human resources director in Stamford as deputy labor commissioner.

Gov Malloy, who made the announcements on January 26, said he wants to send a message that his new administration will have “a very balanced, even approach” to labor issues.

Glenn Marshall of Fairfield, Malloy’s pick for commissioner, is currently president of the Carpenters Union, Local 210. Malloy tapped Dennis Murphy of Bridgeport, a neutral labor arbitrator and the former human resources director in Stamford and chief administrative officer in Bridgeport, as the deputy commissioner.

Gov Malloy says the two will work on ways to make the agency more efficient and responsive to both workers and management.
