Two Audubon Excursionsââ
Botanicals In The Bronx, Bald Eagles On The Hudson
The Lillinonah Audubon Society (LAS) is sponsoring two field trips during the month of February to view flora and fauna in New York City and along the Hudson River.
The first trip will be an excursion on Sunday, February 20, to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory at the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, New York City.
This beautifully restored Victorian âglass houseâ features a stunning array of tropical plants from all over the world, be it the African desert, the Asian rain forest, or the South American jungle. The annual orchid show will also be in full swing.
Admission fee is $13 for adults and $11 for seniors. Call Carolyn Longstreth at 264-9502 to sign up and meet at Exit 14 off I-84 at 8:30 am. This trip is for LAS members only.
The second trip will be on the following Saturday, February 26. LAS Publicity Chairman Judith Stevens will lead those interested on an all-day excursion to the Hudson River to look for wintering bald eagles. The locations where eagles are found include the railroad station in Croton, N.Y., Georges Island, Charles Point in Peekskill, and perhaps West Point.
Participants should bring snacks, lunch, drinks, and binoculars and dress appropriately. Most viewing is done from the car, but some sites require a short walk.
There is no fee, and the public is invited. To sign up, call Judith Stevens at 263-7670. The group will meet at Exit 14 off I-84 at 8 am and carpool to the sites.
