Stamford Symphony Music Scholarship Deadline Approaching

The deadline for student musicians to apply for the Friends of the Stamford Symphony Orchestra Music Scholarship Competition is quickly approaching. All materials must be received by February 28. Each year, the Friends of the SSO recognize the accomplishments of outstanding performers and support their dreams of advanced music study with music scholarships. First prize in the competition, The Janet Meeker Prize, is a $4,000 scholarship paid over four years. High School seniors who reside in Fairfield County and play any orchestral instrument are encouraged to apply. Applications can be found on the Friends’ web page at www.stamfordsymphony.org.

The competition winners will be recognized from the stage at the Palace Theatre during the Stamford Symphony’s concert on April 16. In addition to the scholarship awards they will be offered opportunities to perform in Fairfield County. Past winners have attended the Curtis Institute, Eastman School of Music, Hartt School of Music, Julliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and Mannes College of Music, among others. Last year’s winner, Joshua Fein of Easton, is using his first prize scholarship to study voice at the Eastman School of Music. Second prizewinner, Chris Burkhalter of Norwalk, is studying at the Hartt School.
