FCC Offers Parenting Program For Divorcing Couples

The Family Counseling Center is offering a Parent Education Program (PEP) for divorcing couples involved with child custody issues under Public Act 93-319.

The program is meant to provide an educational experience for the parents to help ensure that the children involved will have as positive a transition as possible. To accomplish this, a proven, effective child-focused curriculum called “Children First” is used.

The curriculum will cover: how children of different ages deal with separation and divorce; negotiation and managing conflict; visitation and new family arrangements; and listening to children and helping them adjust.

Classes are taught by trained facilitators at the center, 121 Mount Pleasant Road, in either one six-hour session or two three-hour sessions during evening or weekend hours.

The Family Counseling Center is a state-licensed and accredited nonprofit mental health agency offering counseling for families and individuals in the greater Danbury and Southbury areas. For more information on when classes are held and additional information, call the Family Counseling Center at 426-8103, ext 100, Monday–Friday, 9 am to 4:30 pm.
