An article in the February 11 edition of The Bee, page B-12, entitled “Powwow Spreads Awareness Of Native American Plight” contained several errors.

Chip Hendrickson was misidentified as the founder of The Red Tail Dancers and his wife, Fran, as a leader of the group. The founder and group leader is Chip’s son, Bob Hendrickson.

The Youth Commission at Trinity Church, and not Sue Vogelman, minister of children’s education at Trinity, organized the Youth Group’s pilgrimage to South Dakota.

The dances performed included traditional and social dances as well as The Flag Song and a Veterans’ Song. The performances were not spiritual in nature.

Russ Olson’s name was excluded from the list of dancers. The caption described a fancy dance, which was in fact a round dance.

The event concluded with a prayer by Pastor Kathie Adams Shepard. The prayer and concluding drum performance were separate and not related in any way.

Organizers of the event also clarified that the jewelry the children made was not authentically Native American.
