Programs on Newtown history and the sixth annual South West Cheerleading Competition will appear next week on Charter Communications’ CommuniTyVision 21 (CTV-21).

Cheerleading squads from eight area high schools will perform their routines as they compete at the competition hosted by Newtown High School. The competition will be broadcast at 2 pm and 9 pm on Sundays, February 20 and 27.

The high school competitors in order of appearance include Joel Barlow, Pomperaug, New Fairfield, Newtown, Brookfield, New Milford, Lauralton Hall, and Bunnell High.

“Local History Today: Newtown, the Early Years” will be broadcast at 8:30 pm on Tuesdays, February 22, and March 1 and at noon on Saturday, February 26 and March 5. The program will focus on roughly the first 100 years of Newtown history.

Gene Rosen, Newtown resident and veteran producer/volunteer at CTV-21, hosts this 30-minute presentation. During one program, he interviews Daniel Cruson, local historian and author, about the town’s charter, early settlers, and the impact of religion and stability during Newtown’s formative years.

This new quarterly television series seeks to interest people of all ages in the local history of area towns.
