Chamber Members Receive A Warm Welcome

At The Taunton Press Open House

The Taunton Press welcomed more than 50 attendees at the February 10 Chamber of Commerce Open House at Taunton’s South Main Street office building. The event attracted both members and business owners looking to join the chamber.

The local publisher rewarded attendees with giveaways including recent issues of its popular  magazines including Fine Woodworking, Fine Homebuilding, Fine Cooking, Inspired House, Fine Gardening, and Threads Magazine.

Dr John Reed, chairman of the Ad Hoc Fairfield Hills Management Committee, made a special presentation and provided the audience of local business leaders with an overview of the committee’s work.

Dr Reed explained that the work of the Ad Hoc Fairfield Hills Management Committee is to act in an advisory capacity to monitor the maintenance of the campus property, which had previously been neglected by the state. Dr Reed credited the committee with taking measures that resulted in legitimate action being taken to control the deterioration of the buildings and mitigate the liability to Newtown of having a run-down abandoned campus in the middle of town. He reviewed pending issues and necessary remediation required on the property in addition to the potential economic development the campus offers.

In his closing remarks, Dr Reed offered to meet with local business leaders to provide a more in-depth presentation and a forum to discuss opportunities for local commerce.
