Art Historian To Lecture At Weir Farm

RIDGEFIELD/WILTON — Weir Farm Trust and the National Park Service are presenting “From the Collection:  J. Alden Weir and Mahonri Young Etchings,” through March 13, as the current installation in the “Artists at Weir Farm” exhibition series at Weir Farm National Historic Site.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the art historian Joan Macy Kaskell, a resident of Wilton, will present a lecture and slide show, “City & Country: The Etchings of J. Alden Weir,” on Sunday, February 27, at 2 pm. The lecture will be in Weir Farm’s Burlingham Barn.

A reception will follow from 3 to 5 pm in the gallery. Reservations are requested; call 203-761-9945.

The exhibition highlights donations of art from Charles Burlingham, Jr, and William B. Carlin (Weir’s grandsons) and recent donations by George C. Lay and Leatrice and Mervyn Schacht. The Weir Farm Trust, a non-profit organization, plays a vital role in collecting art for Weir Farm National Historic Site, Connecticut’s only National Park Site and the only one in the country devoted to American painting.

Gallery hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm Wednesday through Sunday. While the site straddles property in Ridgefield and Wilton, the site’s main entrance is at 735 Nod Hill Road in Wilton.

Weir Farm Winter Visitor Center Hours are Thursday through Sunday from 9:30 am until 4:30 pm. For directions and information call 203-834-1896.
