Former Hawk, CFL’s Will Arndt Shares His Knowledge
Will Arndt, former Newtown High School quarterback, went on to have a record-setting career at Western Connecticut State University and continues his career at the professional level — playing for Ottawa in the Canadian Football League.
Arndt was back in town this winter, and along with teammate and former Detroit Lions player Noel Thomas, he hosted the Football Passing Academy at NYA Sports & Fitness.
“As a guy who’s been in your shoes, continue to stack good days together, and the rest will take care of itself,” was Arndt’s advice to high school players who participated in 60 minutes of on-field work after a film session. Quarterbacks stuck around after the session, and Arndt went over plays on the whiteboard.
Arndt was part of Ottawa’s Gray Cup championship winning team in 2017. His career includes helping the Fort McMurray Monarchs to the Alberta Football League title.
“I love Ottawa — the CFL is an awesome league to play in. I’ve learned a ton,” Arndt said. “Newtown was great. I still help out with the program a bit. It’s a great place to be.”
Arndt graduated from NHS in 2011. His high school career was hurt a bit by injuries, but Arndt went on to have a most successful run at the collegiate level. He set WestConn’s single-game touchdown passing record with seven, and the school’s records for TDs in a single season (32) and passing yards (3,012).
