Donald V. Tallman, 96, of Sandy Hook, formerly of Trumbull, died February 15 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Helene McCarthy Tallman. The Tallmans celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past summer. Born in Albany, N.Y., December 14, 1918, he was the son of the late Ivan and Blanche Stephen Tallman.

Mr Tallman was a decorated World War II Army veteran. 

He was employed by the former Casco Corporation as a timekeeper for many years. Upon his retirement, the Tallmans moved to Washington, N.H., where he was the treasurer of the Lake Ashuelot Home Association. After many years in New Hampshire, they moved to Venice, Fla. Mr Tallman was active in Habitat for Humanity, and helped build more than 25 homes there. He was still helping roof homes in his late 80s.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather, ”Poppy” was a treasured member of the family.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife,  survivors include his three children, Linda Scianna, and her husband Sal, of Sandy Hook, Richard Tallman of New York, and Lisa Buckmaster, and her husband Scott, of Minnesota; his sister, Lois Wallace of Michigan; his five cherished grandchildren, Kristin Scianna, Salvatore Scianna and his wife, Kristen, Michael Scianna, Jenna Buckmaster, and Trevor Buckmaster; three adored great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, Thursday, February 19, from 5 to 7 pm. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
