Safe Options For Our Senior Citizens
Safe Options For Our
Senior Citizens
To the Editor:
In the Winter 2006 edition of Health Monitor, Newtown Senior Center Services Director Marilyn Place understandably and correctly stated that the senior center is not an adult day care center. We, at Almost Home Adult Daycare, LLC, can state that we are an adult day care center. In fact, the only adult day care program in the area.
All of those functions the senior center cannot perform are part of our program and job duties. We also do many of the same fun activities that the senior center does including entertainers, arts/crafts, bingo, dominos, card games, great hot lunches, sing-alongs, dancing, trivia, cross words, volleyball, and luncheon outings. We do stay very local, however, on our outings.
We have a registered nurse on staff that can perform many nursing duties at the center including giving medications, coordinating member care plans with the families and the physicians, taking blood sugar levels, training staff in personal care, etc.
If needed, we can guide members through the activities, help them in the bathroom or at mealtimes as needed, help them with crafts, provide door-to-door hands-on transportation service to our center in Danbury at convenient times to the family. We provide these services Monday through Saturday.
Some families that use the senior center for their impaired/frail loved ones perhaps do not know we exist or think it is outrageously expensive. There are a number of funding options that should enable nearly all families to provide the peace of mind we can offer the family and the socialization, stimulation, and enjoyment we can offer the member without paralyzing burdens on the member or family finances.
Call me at 743-6456 or visit our center at 52 Federal Road in Danbury. Ask for our newsletter of events, or for more information view our website, AlmostHomeADC.org.
