UPDATE (Friday, November 16, 2024): Art & Frame Gallery has announced the extension of “Ruth Newquist: May 5, 1931-January 13, 2024” to February 26, and the addition of more works by the late artist to the presentation.

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN), an organization that Ruth Newquist and her husband founded more than 50 years ago, hosted the formal opening reception at Art & Frame Gallery last weekend for “Ruth Newquist: May 5, 1931-January 13, 2024.”

The exhibition, which had been on the books for months, became a memorial presentation after the artist passed away last month following illness. The collection on display offers viewers more than 30 beautifully framed watercolors and oils filled with the bright, flowing colors and style the longtime Newtown resident was known and awarded for.

As of last weekend’s formal opening date, 21 of the 33 works on view had been sold, which was a record for the gallery.

Dozens of guests attended the reception, including Lynne Pleau, daughter of Ruth and Larry Newquist.

The collection is on view until February 23. Proceeds from the show and sale will be donated to SCAN.

Art & Frame Gallery, located at 77 Main Street, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am until 6 pm.
