Gene Bobel
Gene Bobel, 69, of Sandy Hook, Conn., entered eternal life on February 10th after a courageous year-long battle with brain cancer. He was born on August 16, 1951, in Danbury, Conn., son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Bobel.
Gene was a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical High School and Waterbury State Technical College. Gene worked as a software engineer for a number of area companies including his own, Automated Information Management. Most recently, Gene was employed at Leonardo DRS in Bethel, Conn.
Gene loved photography and worked as a photographer for the News-Times beginning in high school. He founded his own videography business, KLAB Productions, and enjoyed capturing life’s special events locally for over 20 years.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Carol, of 46 years; his beautiful daughters, Katharine and Laura; sons-in-law, Mike and George; and four grandsons whom he adored. Gene is also survived by his brother, Steve, and sister-in-law, Tammy, as well as four nieces, two great-nephews, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lorraine and Tom Anderer, sister-in-law Cathy Lombardi, and cousins John Kraska and Carolyn Butler, their spouses, children, and extended family.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 18, from 5 to 7 pm at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury. A Funeral Mass will take place Friday, February 19, at 11 am, at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. A final resting service is planned for the spring.
