Susan Schankman, 88, wife of the late Milton Schankman, longtime former resident of New York, died February 12 in Southbury. She was the only child born to Sylvia and Alex Maibaum, March 9, 1926, in New York City.

She grew up in the Bronx and was a graduate of Syracuse University. She then attended Columbia University where she obtained her master’s degree in education.

She taught fourth grade in New York City. She married Milton Schankman on October 23, 1948.

Her interests included golf, reading, and painting. Mrs Schankman was a gifted artist.

Her son  Dr Ned Schankman, and his wife Karen, and her grandchildren Alyssa and Adam of Newtown; her granddaughter Jaimie Macko, and her husband John, and her two beloved great-grandsons of Long Island survive Mrs Schankman. An infant son, Andrew, and her daughter, Debbie, predeceased her.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Springs in the Watermark in Southbury for their devoted care of Mrs Schankman in her final days.

A private celebration of her life will be held at the Watermark, at the convenience of her family.

Memorial donations may be made to Smile Train, at www.smiletrain.org.
