Cellphone Violation

Police said they spotted motorist Stephane Colbert, 60, of New Fairfield using a handheld cellular telephone while driving eastward on Church Hill Road about 10:40 am February 7, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Colbert with illegal use of a handheld cellular telephone while driving a vehicle and with driving with a suspended license.

After he posted $100 bail, police released Colbert from custody for a February 23 court appearance.

Sedan Hits Pole

While driving a 2002 Honda Accord sedan eastward near 20 Pole Bridge Road about 9:45 pm February 3, motorist Katelyn Power, 16, of 25 Parmalee Hill Road became distracted, police said.

The Honda then drifted to the right, climbed an embankment and collided with a utility pole. Neither Power nor a 17-year-old passenger were injured, police said.

Power received written warning for making a restricted turn.

Volvo Mishap

Motorist Jesse Dunbar, 41, of 1 Lafayette Trail, who was driving a 1996 Volvo 850 sedan eastward on a snowy Butterfield Road about 7 pm February 2, lost control of the vehicle while on a downhill right curve, police report.

The Volvo slid across the street, went off the westbound road shoulder and struck a guardpost, police said. Dunbar was not injured. Police gave him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Multiple Charges

Police said that they stopped motorist Michael Corbeil, 19, of 8 Monitor Hill Road on the night of February 7, near the intersection of Hattertown Road and Oak Ridge Road for making an unsafe start and an improper turn.

Police said they found Corbeil to be in possession of alcohol. Police then called in their dog to search the vehicle.

Police charged Corbeil with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor, making an unsafe start, and making an improper turn.

After arrest processing, Corbeil posted $100 bail for a February 21 court appearance.

Girl Arrested

On the afternoon of February 5, a 14-year-old girl began screaming and shouting obscenities in the parking lot at Newtown High School in the presence of students and their parents, after which police investigated.

Police charged the girl with second-degree breach of peace. The girl was released into her mother’s custody for a February 26 appearance at Danbury Juvenile Court.

Because the person arrested is under age 18, her identity is shielded by state law.

Alcohol At School

Midday on February 1, police arrested a 14-year-old boy at Newtown High School, charging with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

After arrest processing, police released the boy into the custody of his mother for a February 26 court appearance. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Intersection Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 6:30 am February 7.

In the accident, motorist Jorge Marquez, 37, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet truck eastward on Wasserman Way, drove into the rear end of eastbound motorist Jose Areias, 50, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2003 Saturn Ion sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Marquez received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sugar Street

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Sugar Street, near Elm Drive, about 5:15 pm February 5.

Westbound motorist Bruce Miller, 62, of 7 The Old Road, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry, pulled over onto the road shoulder, police said.

Westbound motorist Robert Denzel, 74, of 3 Blanche’s Walk, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram van, then attempted to pass the Toyota on the left, but collided with it, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Denzel for improper passing.

Vandalism Arrests

Early on the morning of February 10, police arrested two 17-year-old boys following a vandalism incident. Police arrested each of the two boys on one count of second-degree criminal mischief for allegedly driving over a residential lawn and two trees on Strawberry Lane, off High Bridge Road. The damage done exceeds $250.

Each of the two youths were booked on the charges and then released from police custody on written promises to appear February 23 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law shields the names of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Warrant Arrest

On the night of February 8, police served a warrant against Luis Campos-Sanjinez, 34, of Bridgeport, arresting him there on charges stemming from a February 2006 incident near the intersection of Bennetts Bridge Road and Zoar Road in Sandy Hook.

Police arrested Campos-Sanjinez on charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, theft of a marker plate, and improper use of a marker plate.

Campos-Sanjinez posted $1,000 bail and was freed from custody for a February 27 court appearance.

ATM Fraud

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Kimberly Francesco, 22, of 7 Drummers Lane went to the police station on the night of February 9, and was charged with three counts of fraudulent use of an automatic teller machine (ATM), police report.

Police said the charges stem from the fraudulent deposit and withdrawal of funds from an ATM in May 2004. Francesco posted $500 bail and was released from custody for a February 23 court appearance.

Audi Damaged

Police said that Susan Frankel, no age given, of 29 Canterbury Lane, reported to them on the afternoon of January 23, that she believes that a 2007 Audi A-4 sedan, which she had parked at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, was damaged by another vehicle while it was parked there. Police are investigating the incident.

 

Rear-Ender

Near 11 Mt Pleasant Road at about 2:30 pm January 22, northbound motorist Mark Bonamici, 16, of 37 Tunnel Road, who was driving a 2001 BMW 325-I sedan, stopped the BMW behind stopped northbound motorist Julia Preisig, 54, of Somers, N.Y., who was driving a 2001 Toyota Highlander, police said.

Both vehicles had stopped for a school bus, which was dropping off students after school.

When traffic resumed moving, the BMW struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said. Bonamici received a written warning for unsafe movement.

Drug Charges

On the morning of February 10, police served a warrant against Marc DeBeningo, 30, of Danbury, charging him with possession of narcotics and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said the charges stem from a motor vehicle incident last November 18 on Berkshire Road. After he posted $250 bail, police released DeBeningo for a February 27 court appearance.

Chevrolet Vs Toyota

Police report a two-car accident about noon January 27 near 36 Bancroft Road.

The collision involved motorist Kirk Andersen, 24, of Capitol Drive, who was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier, and John Gundel, 56, of Holmes, N.Y., who was driving a 1991 Toyota Corolla, police said. There were no injuries.

Andersen received a written warning for failure to drive to the right. Gundel received a verbal warning for improper parking.

Audi Crash

Motorist Benjamin Moore, 21, of 44 The Old Road was driving a 1991 Audi 100 sedan southward on Currituck Road about 5 am February 11, when he crossed the road’s center line near 32 Currituck and then traveled southward in the northbound lane, police said.

The auto then struck a curb, a residential mailbox, a lawn, and a utility pole. Police said that Moore was not at the accident scene when they arrived to investigate. Police said they found Moore at his residence at 44 The Old Road, which is a side street extending from Currituck Road.

Due to injuries, Moore was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital to be checked, police said. The accident is under investigation.

Toddy Hill Rollover

About 11:18 pm on February 7, motorist Pramod Menon, 30, of 103 Toddy Hill Road was driving a 2000 Honda Civic sedan northward on Toddy Hill Road, when the vehicle traveled across the southbound lane, exited the road, traveled through an area of trees and then rolled onto its roof, coming to rest in a driveway at 120 Toddy Hill Road, police said.

Botsford and Stepney firefighters went to the scene. Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Menon to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. The accident is under investigation.

Snowplow Accident

Motorist Louis Romano, 40, of 7 Sugarloaf Road, who was driving his 1999 Ford truck with a snowplow attached to it, was making a left turn from Swamp Road onto southbound South Main Street about 7:18 am February 5, when the snowplow blade collided with the right side of a 2007 Nissan sedan being driven northward on South Main Street by Andrew Garthwait, 33, of Trumbull, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Romano an infraction for a stop sign violation.

Two SUVs

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the end of Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp near Wasserman Way about 4:20 pm February 10.

In that collision, motorist Matthew Donofrio, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, drove into the rear end of a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Ronnie Parisi, 40, of Branford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Donofrio a written warning for following too closely.

Glen Road Accident

About 9:15 am January 24, motorist Christine Springmeyer, 18, of 2 Fleetwood Drive was driving a 2001 Hyundai Elantra sedan southward on Glen Road, when while rounding a curve in the road, she lost control of the vehicle, slid sideways and traveled across the northbound lane, police said.

The Hyundai went onto the property at 84 Glen Road, struck a tree and hit a street sign, police said. Springmeyer was not injured, according to police. Police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

SUV Vs Deer

Motorist John D. Sullivan, Jr, 55, of 12 Winding Brook Road was driving a 2000 GMC Jimmy southward on Hawleyville Road about 4:20 pm February 11, when a deer ran onto the road, police said. The GMC and the deer collided. Sullivan was not injured. Police issued Sullivan an infraction for failure to renew a vehicular registration.

Five MV Charges

On February 12, police charged a Bridgeport motorist with five motor vehicle offenses. Police said they charged Rebecca Tierney, 27, with failure to display a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without automotive insurance, misuse of a marker plate, and driving without a license. After processing, police released Tierney on $50 bail for a February 27 court appearance.

Audi Off Road

About 7:19 pm February 10, motorist Quentin Smelzner, 50, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 Audi sedan southward near 54 South Main Street, veered to the right, went off the road and then struck an embankment, police said. Neither Smelzner nor a passenger were injured, police said.

Police issued Smelzner an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Honda Vs Ford

Police report that motorist Michael Stirk, 50, of 14 Ox Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus, stopped at a red traffic signal on eastbound Sugar Street, near Elm Drive, about 4 pm February 8, after which Stirk moved forward when the signal turned green.

The Ford then stopped due to traffic conditions, police said.

Eastbound motorist Becky Cavanagh, 42, of Southbury, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot, then struck the Ford from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Cavanagh a written warning for following too closely.

Volkswagen Accident

About 7:24 pm February 2, motorist Christopher Emmerson-Pace, 37, of Monroe was driving a 2003 Volkswagen GTI eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, when while negotiating a curve to the left, the Volkswagen slid on the snowy road and went out of control, police said.

The vehicle hit a curb, went airborne, and then landed on a grass road divider near Johnnie Cake Lane. It came to rest alongside Johnnie Cake Lane, police said. Emmerson-Pace was not injured. He received a infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Larceny

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Jennifer Van Epps, 24, of 52 Charter Ridge Road turned herself over to police on February 12 and was charged with third-degree larceny. The charge, which is a felony, involves the theft of items worth between $1,000 and $5,000.

Police said the arrest stems from an incident that occurred last November 27, in which Van Epps allegedly stole unspecified merchandise from a former employer. After processing, Van Epps was released on a written promise to appear in court on February 26, police said.
