BRIDGEPORT — The new Heart Center Web page on Bridgeport Hospital’s Internet Web site has placed virtual volumes of cardiac health information at the fingertips of personal computer users, just in time for the observance of American Heart Month in February.

By logging onto bridgeporthospital.com and clicking on the heart symbol from the home page, Web site visitors can learn about a variety of heart conditions and treatments, including warning signs and risk factors. The Web page provides a great deal of information on heart disease prevention, from the importance of a good exercise routine to eating properly and managing stress. For those with a dual appetite for fine food and good health, a number of heart-healthy recipes are available.

“Prevention is where we can have the greatest impact,” says Dr Stuart Zarich, the hospital’s chief of cardiology. “Providing people with information to keep their hearts healthy, and locate the resources they need for early diagnosis and treatment, can mean the difference between life and death.”

Also portrayed and explained on the Web page are many of the diagnostic procedures that heart patients are likely to undergo, including an electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, and stress test.
