Velma S. Kovacs
Velma S. Kovacs passed away peacefully January 29, 2023, with family by her side after a brief illness.
She was born January 1, 1929, in Newtown, Connecticut, graduated from Newtown High School, and attended the University of Bridgeport. She also lived in Brookfield, Conn.
She was a devoted sister, aunt, and friend. She will be warmly remembered for her loving kindness, patience, and generous spirit with a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She started her successful career as a telephone operator in 1946 and retired from Southern New England Telephone in 1985 as Manager of Operator Services. Throughout her lifetime she was committed to volunteering with the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Team, March of Dimes, Special Olympics, Danbury Court House, and the Bethel Healthcare Flower Arranging Class. She enjoyed travel, gardening, reading, and time with family and friends.
She is survived by her brother, Stephen P. Kovacs; three nieces, Donna Kovacs, Ginette (Roderick) MacFarquhar, and Sandra (Richard) Dock; a nephew, Randall Kovacs; as well as her sister-in-law, Mable Kovacs; grandniece Kimberly (Alex) Ferrante; and grandnephew Jesse MacFarquhar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vera (Balson) and Paul J. Kovacs; her brother, Julius R. Kovacs; and sister-in-law, Virginia Kovacs.
A memorial service and final interment will take place in the springtime at St Rose of Lima Cemetery, Sandy Hook, Conn.
