Mary “Dorothy” Barr, age 88, of Newtown, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at home surrounded by family.

She is survived by daughter, Dorothy Reseska, and husband, Chris, along with grandchildren, Lauren and Matthew Reseska of Newtown; Jacob Kaplan (fiance Susanna), of Norwalk, Conn., along with precious great-grandson, Hunter Kaplan; and Jonathan Kaplan (fiance Laura) and Gabriel Kaplan of Stamford, Conn. She is also survived by her brother, Albert E. Seidel III, and sister-in-law, Molly, of Edgewood, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, John B. Barr, Jr; daughter, Kathleen M. Kaplan; parents, Mary Dorothy (McCarthy) and Albert E. Seidel, Jr; and her sister/cousin, Florence Small.

She was born and raised surrounded by close family in Brooklyn, N.Y., on August 8, 1933, and after marrying the love of her life, moved to Queens, N.Y., to start a family. She relocated with her family to Danbury, Conn., in 1972. She then moved to Newtown in 2004 to be closer to her grandchildren.

She worked as a secretary for several area companies, most notably Ethan Allen and Society for Plastics Engineers (SPE). She was a devout Catholic and attended St Mary Church in Bethel as well as St Rose Church in Newtown. She loved horses, following races, and especially attending the race tracks in Monmouth, N.J., and Monticello N.Y. She loved watching birds at her bird feeder, the color blue, and having fun at casinos. She was also a voracious reader and could frequently be found with her nose in a good book.

A private funeral mass and burial will be held for immediate family.
