New Play To Debut

In Theater Barn’s Reading Series

RIDGEFIELD — Ridgefield Theater Barn will present the next play reading in a series of unproduced works by local authors on Tuesday, February 26, with a presentation of Jean Goldsmyth’s 5 Minute Date. Craig David Rosen will direct a cast to include Rachel Corn, Lori Franzese, Brad Kimmelman, Stacey Messler, Colin Messler and Meredith Trotta.

The play features a series of vignettes that shuffles four men and five women in a variety of roles. Tess Schlumberg is a successful artist who has a great loft apartment and terrific, interesting friends. She also has a man in her life, but he’s gay. There’s Roger Hennessey, a successful account executive who can get any woman, except the one he wants.

Amy Grant thinks her brother Cary is the perfect man and she knows that can’t be right, even in a David Lynch film. Cliff loves his wife Hester but he doesn’t believe in happily ever after.

Stan is an accountant who wants to do stand-up — after all, his love life is a joke. And then there’s Jennifer, a blonde.

5 Minute Date is a sophisticated take on the dating scene combining witty banter, giddy Broadway pastiche and loony comic send-up but beneath the humor lie serious questions about love, life and art.

The series gives local playwrights an opportunity to have their work presented with actors reading their lines and  constructive feedback from the audience .

Admission is free but donations will go toward the new building fund. Reservations are not required. The Theater Barn is at 37 Halpin Lane.
