GREENWICH, CONN. â The Greenwich Antiques Society will present a lecture at 1:15 pm at the Bruce Museum on March 3. âDraped in Dragons: Chinese Court Costume,â will be given by Pamela A. Parmal, the David and Robert Logie curator of textile and fashion arts and department head at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
She will discuss her exhibit at the museum, âDraped in Dragon: Chinese Court Costume,â the Qing dynasty, 1644 to 1911, the era of the Manchu. Although adopting traditional Chinese court robes, the Manchu invaders from the North brought more colorful and dramatic elements to their design.
Parmal has authored many publications on a broad spectrum of textile arts, including those of China and Japan and on French and US designers. She has presented numerous exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and at the Rhode Island School of Design while she was associate curator there. Parmal is also the former president of the Textile Society of America, and the author of Geoffrey Beene: Samplers From A to Z; and Beauty in Hand: The Art of the Fan.
