More than 60 members of Newtown’s Winterset Ski Club participated in a recent trip to Okemo Mountain in Vermont. Most rode the bus, others drove and joined the group at the Echo Lake Inn, where all enjoyed complementary wine, beer, cheese, and other appetizers. The group’s ages ranged from 4 to 72, and all ages met and made friends and seemed to have a great time. Mother Nature cooperated this year, and — combined with Okemo’s grooming — all trails were covered with easy-to-ski packed powder. The only question is whether people enjoyed the skiing or the inn more. The staff at Echo Lake was pleasant and accommodating, as usual, and the Saturday night dinner was a special treat — and offering some very unusual choices, such as ostrich and venison, in addition to the more usual fare. The same Inn is being used at the end of the month (February 29–March 3) for the OnSnow Carnival weekend at Okemo and there are still a few rooms available for both couples and families. If interested, contact the Winterset Ski Club membership chairperson through the club at www.wintersetskiclub.org. For more information on the OnSnow weekend, click on trips, then overnight trips, and OnSnow.  These trips are run by Susan Brier.
