Lions Welcome

Two New Members

The Lions Club of Newtown recently welcomed Gary Frey and Alan Jacobs as new members of the nonprofit civic group.

Mr Jacobs is retired from the Treasury Department, where he worked as a Special Agent investigating white collar crimes. He has been a Newtown resident for 13 years and currently serves on the board of directors for Brookfield YMCA.

Mr Frey is president of WinSynergy Corp, a company specializing in implementation and optimization of new software systems. He has lived in Sandy Hook for the last ten years.

The Lions meet at the Stony Hill Inn, Bethel, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month (except July and August), at 7 pm. This club sponsors various fundraising activities to benefit its projects, Al’s Trails, Orchard Hill Nature Center, and the recent town hall seats restoration project.

The Lions Club also sends care packages to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It contributes to causes such as eyesight conservation and helping the blind, and sponsors an annual Lose-the-Litter Day. Its activities include an automobile raffle, a pancake breakfast, and AmeriCares, among others.

Current club president is Tom Evagash. For more information visit NewtownLions.com.
