Barbara Goodspeed of Sherman will be presenting a watercolor demonstration for The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown at its next meeting, on Wednesday, February 23, at 1:30 pm. The demonstration, open to the public free of charge, will be held at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole).

Barbara Goodspeed is one of the club’s most popular demonstrators. She has trained under some of the best-known watercolor artists, including Ed Whitney. During her program she will share some of the insights she has learned from her teachers.

Mrs Goodspeed’s work has earned a long list of awards, including the Jane Peterson Award from Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Grumbacher Gold Medal Award from Kent (CT) Art Association, and first in oil from SCAN. She is a trustee of Kent Art Association and a director of Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York City.

Her paintings have been published in several books, including Best of Oil Painting, published by North Light; and Best of Landscapes, Best of Watercolor III and Best of Watercolor – Light and Shade, all from Rockport Publishers.
