Real Food CT (RFCT), a Newtown-based nonprofit organization with a mission to bring locally grown, healthy food to people who need it, is excited to announce its plans for the upcoming season, including ambitious goals, new job opportunities, and a call for dedicated volunteers.

Building on the success of 2024, which saw a record-breaking 50,000 pounds of locally grown produce donated to families in need, Real Food CT has set its sights even higher for 2025. With expanded farm and gleaning operations, the organization aims to significantly increase the amount of food it grows, gleans, collects, and donates in 2025.

Real Food CT Founder and Executive Director Sean Fitzpatrick says he and the RFCT team are “incredibly proud of what we accomplished last year, thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our community.

“Now, with a new refrigerated truck, expanded partnerships, and a growing team, we’re ready to take our mission to the next level,” he added.

Highlights From 2024

During calendar year 2024, RFCT accomplished the following:

*Donated over 50,000 pounds of produce to 17 different food pantries;

*Partnered with 17 local farms to rescue surplus and gleaned produce;

*Provided hands-on farming experience to 10 young farmer interns;

*Welcomed numerous volunteer groups to support its community farms; and

*Secured grant funding from the CT Department of Agriculture to purchase a refrigerated box truck, enhancing RFCT’s capacity to transport and distribute fresh produce.

Looking Ahead

RFCT has the following goals for 2025:

*Expand gleaning operations and partnerships with local farms;

*Increase volunteer engagement through expanded training and outreach; and

*Develop a comprehensive five-year sustainability plan to guide long-term growth.

With the second goal in mind, Real Food CT is currently seeking to fill two key roles: Administrative and Communications Coordinator, and Board of Directors.

The Administrative and Communications Coordinator is a part-time position that will support the organization’s operations, manage communications, and engage with volunteers and partners. Ideal candidates will have strong organizational and communication skills, experience with social media and marketing, and a passion for sustainable agriculture.

Those interested are invited to submit their resume and cover letter to sean@realfoodct.org. Interviews will begin immediately.

Real Food CT is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join its Board of Directors. The organization is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in fundraising, strategic planning, and marketing.

Interested individuals are encouraged to learn more and apply through realfoodCT.org.

Real Food CT relies on the dedication of its volunteers to achieve its mission. With expanded farm and gleaning operations, there are numerous opportunities for individuals to get involved, including harvesting and packing produce at its community farms; assisting with gleaning trips to local farms; and supporting fundraising and community outreach efforts.

RFCT has also launched its 2025 Season Sponsorship program. Businesses and individuals can support the organization’s work through various sponsorship levels, receiving recognition and benefits in return.

“We invite everyone who shares our passion for local food and community well-being to join us in making a difference,” says Fitzpatrick. “Whether you volunteer your time, make a donation, or become a sponsor, your support will help us nourish our community and build a more sustainable future.”
