Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue members check two of three vehicles involved in a collision around 7:30 am Tuesday, February 1, that partially closed Church Hill Road and sent two people to the hospital to be checked for injuries. According to police, Molly A. Connors, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Volvo S60 Premier (above right) south on Walnut Tree Hill Road, had stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with Church Hill Road. Ben R. Plaue, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Nissan Rogue S (left), was traveling east on Church Hill Road near Walnut Tree Hill Road, and Lisa A. Cascella, 54, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling westbound on Church Hill and was stopped at Walnut Tree Hill Road for a red traffic signal. Connors turned left onto Church Hill Road, failing to grant right of way to the oncoming Nissan. As a result, the front passenger side of the Volvo and the front end of the Nissan collided, causing disabling damage to both vehicles. The front of the Volvo then struck the front door of the Chevy. Cascella and a passenger both reported possible injuries and were transported to a hospital by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps. A paramedic and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue also responded to the crash. Connors, her passenger, and Plaue were each checked but did not have reported injuries. The Volvo and Nissan were towed; the Chevy was driven away from the scene. Connors was issued a citation for making an improper turn: failure to grant right of way. —Bee Photo, Hicks
