Rear-Ender

About 2 pm on February 9, motorist Warren Koudelka, 76, of McDonough, N.Y., who was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck northward on South Main Street, near Borough Lane, stopped, after which the Chevrolet was struck from behind by a northbound 1995 Ford F-350 truck driven by David Sorrentino, 17, of Sandy Hook, police report.

Koudelka was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Sorrentino received an infraction for following too closely.

Nissan Vs Toyota

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Prospect Drive at its intersection with South Main Street about 3:41 pm on February 8.

While exiting Prospect Drive to enter South Main Street, motorist Othniel Ranger, 38, of Shelton, who was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima sedan, struck a 2005 Toyota 4_Runner SUV driven by Maria DaCruz, 56, of Danbury, police said. DaCruz received possible injuries but refused medical attention. Ranger received an infraction for following too closely.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred on westbound Interstate 84, between Exit 11 and Exit 10, about 7:35 am on February 7.

As traffic slowed in the area, motorist Bruce Vagts, 49, of Cheshire, who was driving a 2013 Honda Accord, struck the rear end of a 2015 Ford Edge SUV driven by John Slavin, 38, of Waterbury, pushing the Ford into the rear end of a 2018 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Lauren Feller, 34, of Meriden, state police said. There were no injuries. Vagts was following too closely, according to state police.

Cruiser Vs Truck

About 7:15 am on February 6, amid moist roadways and heavy traffic, a state police cruiser struck the rear end of a truck on westbound Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet west of Exit 10, state police said.

As motorist Nathan Gold, 38, of Meriden, who was driving a 2015 Ford Transit truck, slowed for heavy traffic conditions, Trooper Pedro Muniz, 30, who was driving a 2013 Ford interceptor state police cruiser, struck the rear end of the Transit.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Trooper Muniz for following too closely.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report that at about 8:28 am on February 6, motorist George L. Trudell, 82, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2007 Hyundai Sonata sedan, was parallel-parked along the eastbound road shoulder near 98 Church Hill Road, after which Trudell drove to the left, colliding with eastbound motorist Jeffrey Rossi, 68, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2012 Cadillac CTS sedan.

There were no injuries. Police issued Trudell an infraction for unsafe movement from a stopped position.

Interstate Crash

State police report that at about 8:45 am on February 5, motorist Igor Bochenkov, 44, of Newington, who was driving a 2007 Honda Accord westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, struck the rear end of a 2003 Subaru Forester driven by Kara Guay, 27, of Middletown. There were no injuries. Bochenkov received a verbal warning for following too closely.

Truck Vs Truck

About 5:43 am on February 4, trucker Wilfredo Vivanco-Soto, 57, of Carlstadt, N.J., who was driving a 2009 Volvo heavy truck eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, blew a tire, after which the blown tire was struck by motorist Sean Lyman, 39, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 Ford Ranger pickup truck, state police said.

There were no injuries. Vivanco-Soto was verbally warned for driving with unsafe tires.

Pedestrian

Police report a vehicular accident involving a pedestrian in a commercial parking lot at 5 Queen Street about 11:10 am on February 4.

Motorist Kelly Ann Cerrato, 46, of Hartsdale, N.Y., who was driving 2018 Subaru Outback in the parking lot, explained to police that sun glare obscured her view and she then heard a man scream “Hey,” after which she saw the man directly in front of the vehicle.

The man, Peter Clark, 76, of Sandy Hook, jumped out of the vehicle’s path of travel, but then fell to the ground, police said. Clark received an apparent minor injury and refused medical attention. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the incident. Police issued Cerrato an infraction on charges of driving without a license and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Wasserman Way

A two-vehicle collision occurred near 100 Wasserman Way about 1:58 pm on February 4, according to police.

In that incident, motorist Antony DeFelice, 41, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup truck westward, attempted to pass a westbound commercial 2011 Ford F-650 truck driven by Richard Mariani, 19, of Newtown, resulting in a collision. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned DeFelice for passing in a no passing zone.

Ring Found

Police are holding for safekeeping a finger ring which was found on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Main Street, on the afternoon of February 4. The ring’s owner may contact police at the police station at 203-426-5841 in regard to Case #2019-3171.

SUV Hits Pickup

About 4 pm on February 4, motorist Kyle Shelton, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, was waiting on northbound Toddy Hill Road, near Berkshire Road, for a traffic signal, when the Chevrolet was struck from behind by 2015 Volvo XC-60 SUV driven by Katie Ryan, 17, of Newtown, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Ryan for following too closely.

Highway Collision

State police said that motorist Dwayne Connor, 57, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 5:39 pm on February 4, slowed for heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Kristopher Dammling, 24, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord.

There were no injuries. Dammling was verbally warned for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Arrest

About 12:26 am on February 1, state police responded to eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, after learning that an accident had occurred there.

State police said motorist Emma Herring, 24, of Southbury had been driving a 2016 Ford Escape SUV on the highway when she lost control of the vehicle and struck some metal-beam guardrailing. There were no injuries.

After investigating, state police charged Herring with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. Herring was released on $500 non-surety bail for a February 26 court appearance.

Lexus Into Rails

Motorist Nicholas McGill, 20, of Yonkers, N.Y., was driving a 2017 Lexus sedan westward on Interstate 84, near the Exit 11 on-ramp, about 1:43 pm on February 1, when he spun out and struck the median guardrail and then spun around again and hit the rail again.

There were no injuries. McGill received an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.
