Garden Ornamentation Program

WATERBURY — Noted horticulturist, gardener and photographer Tovah Martin will give her own interpretation and sense of style to the topic of garden ornamentation when she presents a program based on her popular book (with Richard W. Brown) Garden Whimsy on Saturday, February 26, from 11 am to 2 pm, at Mattatuck Museum.

Ms Martin, whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Fine Gardening and Horticulture Magazine, will take participants on a slide tour based on her book of magnificent gardens ornamented with sublime, utilitarian and eccentric “whimsies.”

Ms Martin is an avid indoor and outdoor gardener. She has worked as a horticulturist at White Flower Farm in Litchfield and also authored Tasha Tudor’s Garden, Tasha Tudor’s Heirloom Crafts, and two Taylor’s Weekend Guides, which concern window boxes and indoor gardening, all published by Houghton Miflin.

Copies of Garden Whimsy will be available for sale at the program.

After Ms Martin’s presentation, a tea by the museum’s Exhibition Café will be served among the whimsical garden art of local artists and gardeners.

Tickets are $35 each. To register by mail, send checks payable to The Mattatuck Museum at 144 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06702. For further information, call the museum at 203/753-0381.
