BOYS 8TH GRADE TRAVEL

 

NEWTOWN 75, BEACON FALLS 37: A tenacious defense that came up with 25 steals and allowed just 14 points through three quarters helped fuel a victory over Beacon Falls. Andrew Fiscella canned 19 points while Ben Bagaglio added 13. Dave Anderson (11) and Ronnie Shimko (10) also added double-digit efforts. Fiscella, Matt McFadden and Brian Smith had five steals apiece while Anderson dished out three assists. Fiscella and Ross Coates grabbed six rebounds apiece.

GIRLS 7TH GRADE TRAVEL

 

REDDING 35, NEWTOWN 32: Despite 20 points from Ashley Larocque, Redding staged a furious, fourth-quarter rally to overcome Newtown. Christie Caruso and Courtney Brunson played some tough defense while Jackie Ercole and Jessica Budnick were aggressive off the boards, collecting 10 rebounds apiece.

NEWTOWN 45, WESTON 32: Megan LaFlamme scored a season-high 12 points to lead Newtown to the win. Also contributing to the offense were Emily Nezvesky (7), Katie O’Connor (6), Siobhan Cooper (4), and Amie Walston (3).

BOYS 6TH GRADE TRAVEL

 

NEWTOWN 63, GREENWICH 34: Everyone got into the scoring column, with Marc Ingerman leading the way with 14 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Chris Giorno added 10 points while Drew Adamek chipped in with nine points and four assists. Alex Caruso and Stephen Neylon combined for six assists and four steals as Jack Capito and Josh Tennebaum combined for 16 rebounds.

CHESHIRE 57, NEWTOWN 51: Drew Adamek scored 13 points and Marc Ingerman recorded his fourth double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, but Newtown fell short against Cheshire. Newtown, now 14-5, held a one-point lead heading into the final quarter but Cheshire buried a pair of three-point baskets to seal the win. Drew Harmata scored six points and pulled down 10 rebounds in a fine performance.

GIRLS 6TH GRADE TRAVEL

 

RIDGEFIELD 29, NEWTOWN 22: With a roster of just six players because of illness, Newtown suffered in a loss to Ridgefield. “Jake” Logan played well, blocking four shots, while Trina Ramsdell and Tori Filler combined for 15 points to power the offense. Kari Frawley, Kaitlin Murphy, and Elissa Ballard led the defense.

FAIRFIELD 55, NEWTOWN: The early bird catches the worm and with a game time of 8:15 am, Fairfield caught the worm. Trina Ramsdell scored six points in the final quarter to fuel a late comeback that eventually fell short. Filler was strong off the boards and Julie Iwanicki led all scorers with 15 points.

NEWTOWN 39, BETHEL 26: Seven of the eight players on the team got into the scoring column, with Kelley Haines and Tori Filler combining for 19 points. Filler and “Jake” Logan controlled the boards and Kari Frawley led the defense with two key steals.

NEWTOWN 42, SOUTHBURY 25: “Jake” Logan scored 10 points and Tori Filler added nine as Newtown swamped Southbury. Kelley Haines, Filler and Logan controlled the boards while Julie Iwanicki powered the fast break. Erin Murdoch was aggressive on defense.

NEWTOWN 43, NORWALK 21: Newtown clung to a two-point lead at the end of one quarter, but opened the flood gates in the second to overpower Norwalk. Kelley Haines pumped in 14 points and Julie Iwanicki added 10. “Jake” Logan chipped in with seven points while Tori Filler and Kaitlin Murphy combined for 10 points.

BOYS 5TH GRADE TRAVEL

East Haven Tournament

 

WALLINGFORD 44, NEWTOWN 41: Ryan McGrath scored 14 points and Joey DeVellis added nine, but Newtown fell to a tough Wallingford team in the first round of the East Haven Basketball Tournament. Michael Klein scored seven points while Tucker Kass and McGrath were strong off the glass.

NEWTOWN 48, GUILFORD 29: Aron Fay, Cody Shpunt and Joey Bowen combined for 12 assists to lead an explosive offense. Ryan McGrath and Michael Kennedy combined for 21 points. Michael Tibbetts and Shpunt added six points apiece as Tibbetts and Bowen had a strong game off the boards.

NEWTOWN 40, MONROE 20: Ryan McGrath canned 13 points while Joey DeVellis and Michael Kennedy scored eight points apiece to lead Newtown over Monroe. Newtown dominated the boards through the efforts of Joey Bowen, Tucker Kass, Michael Tibbetts, and McGrath. Newtown, now 18-5 overall, will compete against Hamden on Friday in the next round of the tournament.
