Gymnasts Fourth In SWC Championships

Newtown High School’s gymnastics team performed on a the vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor, and took home a fourth-place finish in the South-West Conference championship meet at New Milford High School on February 12.

The Nighthawks scored 126.85 points. New Milford won the competition with 140.5, Nonnewaug placed second with 134.15, and Pomperaug of Southbury was third with 133.2. Newtown, coached by Keristen Raccio, had the following strong performances:

Anna Jannott was fourth on the vault with a score of 8.75, came in fifth on the bars with an 8.1, fifth on the beam with an 8.2, fourth in her floor exercise with a 9.05, and finished fifth all around with a cumulative score of 34.1. She earned first team All SWC.

Maddie Jannott tied for seventh on the vault with a score of 8.4, scored an 8.3 on the floor, and had an all around score of 31.85. She is a second team All SWC selection.

Sammie Gilbert tied for eighth on the vault with a score of 8.35, and scored an 8.0 on the floor. Cameron Vazquez beam tied for ninth on the beam with an 8.25, and scored an 8.0 on the floor. Liz Marcinek was solid on vault, beam, and floor, Raccio noted.
