Newtown Attorney
Nominated For Superior Court
Sheila Ozalis, Republican, of Newtown, one of nine people nominated by Governor M. Jodi Rell to the Connecticut Superior Court bench on January 31, was confirmed by the Connecticut State Legislation February 4, according to State Representative Chris Lyddy.
Ms Ozalis, who has practiced law for 20 years, said earlier in the week that she was honored to have been nominated. She began her law career with Kenyon and Kenyon in New York City, specializing in intellectual property law, and continued on at Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam, and Roberts in Connecticut where she handled a variety of corporate work, including commercial and employment litigation, and foreclosure action.
She has been with Smith & Ozalis in Newtown for five years.
Other nominees include Democrats Gerard Adelman of Meriden, William Wenzel of Fairfield, Dawne Westbrook of Glastonbury, Glenn Woods of Middletown; Republicans Mary-Margaret Burgdorff of West Hartford, Corinne Klatt of Meriden, and Jose Suarez of West Hartford. Vernon Oliver of Portland is unaffiliated. The confirmed nominees will take the place of judges who have retired or who are moving into other judicial vacancies.
Ms Ozalis said that she was unsure at this time when those appointments would go into effect.
