Police report that they assisted volunteer ambulance personnel at a February 6 incident in Dodgingtown in which a man had accidentally shot himself.
Police said they received a call for help at about 9:19 am through which they learned that Richard Marus, 21, of 25 Pepperidge Road had accidentally discharged a .22-caliber rifle in his backyard, shooting himself in the right foot.
Marus had thought that the safety mechanism on the rifle was engaged, but it was not, police said.
Ambulance personnel transported Marus to Danbury Hospital, according to police.
Marus was treated for his injury at the hospitalâs emergency department and then released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police said the incident is under investigation.
